On Monday, August 15th, 2:46p.m the BC General Employees’ Union entered into a legal strike, much to the dismay of the BC Liquor Distribution Board(BCLDB). This strike came after 7 months of negotiation, and lasted two weeks, impacting every cannabis retailer in British Columbia - both province-run & private. To fully examine what this meant to the BC market, Aly Benson, founder of The Different Collective, created this video to explore the strike’s impact.

Since posting this video, there have been updates. On Wednesday, September 7th, a new three-year agreement was reached after nine straight days of bargaining. The BCGEU has posted this list of highlights, which include general wage increases alongside additional temporary/one-time payments. The strike is not completely over, as the union has yet to set a date to vote, ratifying the agreement for over 33,00 public service workers.
